    Default Rain protection for DSLRs.

Obviously I am doing some research on Digital SLRs for me and my wife's upcoming purchase- a Canon 10D and 300D. One of my favorite subjects to shoot is Flagfootball, an outdoor sport. Rain or shine, the game goes on...no problem with me the hobbyist photographer but what about the camera?!

For consumer and small format cameras, you can buy the underwater and all-weather housings for particular models. None for DSLRs though because the lenses are interchangeable, so no fixed size. I am looking for some way to protect the cameras from rain, anybody found a product available locally or in Hidalgo?

On the net, these are the ones I found:
    EWA Hurricane Hood
    Fotosharp Camera Rain cover
    DIY Camera poncho

The problem with any of those rain covers is condensation. Specially with all the electroinics inside theses DSLR's. Parang your better off with an umbrella. Have heard stories of moisture forming on the CCD's or CMOS chips and permanently messing it up.

If you do get a rain cover, maybe the DIY is your best option. Just make sure the bag is loose so the camera can 'breathe'

    Good Luck!

wow i saw the title for this thread and immediately thought of just getting an umbrella.. mukang naunahan ako dun

I had a shoot once for some ropes challenge and i had to get up a couple of stories on this cement post.. so i was up there with a bunch of rope harnesses (? tama ba spelling?) a hard hat and my d100.. then it started raining..
instead of going all the way down and risk getting the cam wet in the process i had a sombrero type straw hat brought accross to me by one of the guys holding the ropes and instead of covering myself up i put it on my camera... i was soaking wet and waited for the rain to stop up on that pole but my d100 was safe and dry

That's where the 1D series comes in.... most of the time it's only the lens that I cover (since it's an L) with plastic garbage bag, the usual black one. Very handy on outdoor shoots.

There are pro underwater case for D30's and D60's and most likely the 10D has one already by now.

    Hi Ditoy,

I've actually taken a D30 underwater to about 25 feet in an EWA UAX-P flexible housing (glorified palstic bag) It seems to work ok as long as you keep some fresh dessicant in the bag and if you don't mind accessing the controls through the bag ( its quite difficult to zoom. ) .

Heheheh fun and time-consuming TJ! I am also getting worried now... ang gastos!

Albert thanks for your suggestionthe Ewa-Marine UAXP, I might consider that.

Another one I found is best for divers searching for lost treasures, but expensive and too much for my application- Ikelite Underwater systems.
