Default Powerbook won't recognize new CF card

I got me a new 2GB Ridata 80x Pro2 CF card but my book won't recognize it.
I upgraded to a 10.3.9 and I am using Lexard firewire CF card reader.
Everytime I insert the card to the reader, it says volume is not recognized by OS X. It's asking if I want to initialize it but when I do, there is no provision to format the volume. I was able to download the images from the camera tethered to my powerbook via its USB cable but was too darn slow. What should I do?

    TIA

    1) Download images using the POWERBOOK <-> USB <-> CAMERA connection
    2) RE-FORMAT the CF using the cameras FORMAT utility
    3) Take photos, now try accessing it using the FIREWIRE card reader.

    If step above fails...

    1) Format the CF Card using DISK UTILITIES
    2) Use the CF on your digicam
    3) Try Downloading pics using firewire...

Pag ayaw pa rin.. hmmmn.. try other CARD readers.

Thanks McArenas. Like I said, I've downloaded the images via the camera itself, formatted the card after that pero ganon parin. I also tried using Disk Utility too but it didn't work either.

I googled on this problem and found out that a lot of people have had problems with it as well. Some had to upgrade their Lexar card reader firmware but my particular reader doesn't need any upgrade according to the Lexar site if its on an OS X.

my experience with lexar card readers is that they are VERY picky with the CF that they read..

Very picky indeed, and it can be frustrating particularly when downloading images from various CF card brands with photos shot from all sorts of digital SLRs. What would, therefore, be a more "universal" firewire CF card reader? Any recommendation?

Maverick, thanks for the recommendation. What would you suggest for a firewire CF card reader?

I'd like to ask the more experienced Photographers here if anyone has tried the Delkin Cardbus CF adapter?

The reason I ask is since the 15" & 17" PBs internal PCMCIA slots are hardly used that I might as well keep a card like this in it so I don't need to carry those USB CF readers.

Any idea if this product is available locally?

I've been using an Epson PCMCIA card adapter and never had an issue with it. It is not a Delkin but I think they are similar.

i was able to get one of those 32bit cardbus by delkin. its faster than the regular 16bit ones. but once you've ran the 32bit driver, you wont be able to read any other 16bit pcmcia cards..
