    Default Need Camera

    Hi Guys,

Need your advice. I can say that I'm still new with photography even if I have been taking pictures for quite some time now with my Canon Elan (lens: 35mm to 80mm, 70mm to 300mm). My first digital camera is also a Canon, an S45. However, we are letting go of the S45 and planning to get a DSLR instead.

At this time, I'm more inclined on getting a Canon DSLR (300D or 20D?) as that would allow me to use/share my SLR lens. However, I'm also open to switching system to a non-Canon brand, if it's really compelling. Need your advice on which to get.

Is the 20D already available locally and how much? Where is the best place to get Canon cameras (300D or 20D)? What other brands (Nikon?) would be a good alternative?

    Thanks.

since you already have Canon lenses I suggest you stick to it.
The 20D will be available mid-sept. if I'm not mistaken.

Depends on a lot of factors. The biggest of which is budget. I presume that your lenses are the 4.5-5.6 variety? which makes them relatively inexpensive and not that difficult to dispose if ever you plan to switch to a Nikon.

I got hold of a D70 last weekend and was very pleased. Especially the SB-800 flash.

Canon 300D is around 50-60k. Nikon D70 is around 70k+? 20D will be around 100k?

But if money is no object, go for the 20D. I've heard about the new improved low ISO noise. ISO 1600 on 300D is only ISO 400 on the 20D?!?

But I really would not recommend that you sell the S45. Hang on to it, keep it around, its a good digicam. Iba pa din ang small digital camera, its more practical, light and handy and can go to places you'd be afraid to take your big heavy DSLR. Believe me.

I agree with Kenneth. Keep your digicam coz sometimes its hard to bring your dslr with you especially when you have a lot of stuff with you. A small and compact digicam is a better alternative when space, or the lack thereof is a factor.

If your are not in a hurry, i would wait til the end of the month and see what the other manufacturers have to offer at photokina. Europe's annual photoshow.

Already you can see pre photokina press releases from olympus.
