Is there a way to transfer the iPhoto library to an external drive from the default one that iPhoto uses?
Is there a way to use iPhoto as a viewer/organizer without having to import the files into the iPhoto library?

For organizing photos, you might want to try Photo Mechanic (thanks for the tip, jofab!). It's not free though but it's worth every penny.
You have an option here to store your photos to a secondary destination while injesting photos from the cf. I'm pretty sure you know this already...But if not, then there you go. :beer:
