Have you folks tried iPhoto 5? I'm playing with it now and boy, am I impressed! Apple incorporated all the stuff I though was missing in the previous version, and then some.
I like the new editing features, the thumbnails and the movie importing.
But most of all, I love how fast it is. It's almost as if I upgraded my system (mind you, I still use a revision 1 (6,1) 12" PowerBook). Thumbnail scaling, image scrolling and rotation, no waiting time. Wow!
Will be trying it out too in a few weeks time when my brother's Mini arrives. Want to see how it imports RAW files since its part of my personal wishlist
There're some things I wished they thought of implementing.
for one thing, I like the added effects of the slide show. I wish that they can do a microsoft with adding a random effects genertaor rather than having us do everything or have the whole slide show do a single type of transition alone.
and with the slide show thing. it's too bad that it makes another album file when you make a slideshow. it just clutters up the side bar. for me of course, your opinions may vary.
I also wish that the button to make the selcted picture as your wallpaper is still along the navigation tray instead of the dropdown menu.

I agree with you on this one, but I wouldn't credit Microsoft for the feature. When you 'Create new slideshow', you can specify different transitions for each photo. But you're right, it would be nice to have 'random' as an option.

You're clicking on the 'Create a new slideshow' button (notice the 'plus' sign in the button), which is a really nifty new feature, especially if you want to create and save a slideshow (and its specific settings) for repeated playback. In fact, in this new feature, you can create a sort of 'movie'. You can specify transitions for each photo, add efects like sepia or B&W (without altering the library file) and control the Ken Burns effect too.
The old slideshow method is still there. Just click on the Play button located on the bottom left side of the window.

You mean the toolbar? It's there! It's the button called Desktop.
the exposure setting adjustment in a great image editing/enhancement tool. it allows for unbelievably quick and easy adjustments of exposure while maintaining color and sharpness and other photo details.
When editing a picture, and you want to see the original image (to compare with the altered/edited one), simply hold down the ctrl key. It's a really convenient feature. It shows you the original saved image (as iPhoto automatically creates a copy when you edit a picture). No need to undo (cmd+z). Think of it as a 'review' button.
Also, even after making changes to an image, the Revert to Original option under Photos will allow you to go back to your original image, no matter what changes you have made to it (rotate, red eye, color, saturation, etc.). The original is always there. You can go back to it anytime.
