My Graphic Converter, for some reasons I do not have the sanity anymore to resolve, will suddenly triple the size of any file I run through its browser.
If it sounds unbelievable, I really don't know anymore. I think I'm going nuts.
I'm attaching three pics below.
Pic1 = Convert and Modify -> Save File as something in the area of 50k
Pic2 = Successfully saved as 50k
Pic3 = When opened again in Graphic Converter from Finder, all the 50k files suddenly become 160k +
I really don't understand it anymore.
Argh...
I'm already very tempted at this point to try installing Virtual PC so I can run ACDSEE 7.0..
the strange thing is that the values in FINDER are also now triple in size (so it's not just in GC).. this is AFTER viewing them in GC.
Oh, and take note, I am posting this the DAY AFTER.. so I'm pretty sure it's not a cache problem..
I know there is probably a very simple, logical reason why this happened, some really stupid reason which will make me smack myself in the head for not thinking of this sooner, but right now, I'm stumped..
I will try to post more about this weird condition later.
The reason why your pics increase in file size when you run them through GC's browser is because GC creates thumbnail images for each pic (for preview purposes) and embeds it in the file too. Notice before in finder, your pics didn't have thumbnails, just the generic JPG thumbnail, and after GC they do. Its a necessary evil for GC in order to browse your pics faster the second time around.
Ok, you can smack yourself on the head now
I really don't like this feature too and I'm not sure if there's a way to turn it off, thats why I stay away from its browser. Perhaps you can use iView or Photomechanic as a viewer. Or even the now turbo charged iPhoto 5.
If you want the preview thumbnails stripped off your images so that they'll return to normal file size, simply zip up the folder they're in. Or in other words, create an archive of it (.zip file) by control-clicking the folder and extract them again. Hope this helps.
2. pick which ones to delete (needed a browser ... in iPhoto kasi if you delete from the library, the real file itself is still alive... is there a way to KILL a file from HD using iPhoto?)
3. resize some of the photos in a separate directory AND GET THEM UNDER 100K
4. then touch up a bit, and upload to my buzznet account.
I tried so many ways of doing it and so spent so many hours on what would have taken under a minute on ACDSEE on my PC ( I timed it for good measure ) , that frustration REALLY kicked in.
I tried:
iPhoto export (wish you could specify at what quality to export the file at)
Adobe Photoshop Automate (parang ang tagal),
GC's convert and modify (charan.. file size tripled)..
and to add insult to injury, Freephotoconverter had the misfortune of having ITS own files tripled by GC..
So in the end, I said screeeeeeeew that, and removed GC (for now.. and it doesn't look like it's going to make a comeback anytime soon).
Will just use iPhoto (I discovered the Slideshow thing which you can burn on DVD.. cool!), and Adobe PSCS from now on.. feck..
