Default Feedback on Gretag Macbeth Eye-one Display

Been wanting a monitor calibration tool for years already but never had the budget for it. I was suprised to see the Gretag Macbeth Eye One Display for $59 at JR.com. This product was replaced with the newer Eye One Display 2 which retails for about $250.

Question: Is there any significant reason I should aim to buy the Display 2? At a fifth of the price of the newer model, I'm inclined to purchase this one (version 1). Any feedback you guys can give? After all, my goal is to calibrate a PB, an iBook, and two peecees. Will version 1 be okay with that?

We use both a Spyder and Eye One Display here at the universty and they work fine. We actually pass it around the class so that we get to calibrate our monitors with the college's digital printing press. It's worked pretty accurately with all the monitors here across both Wintel and Mac platforms so I don't see a problem with buying the version 1 really. It gets the job done.

We reserve the use of our Display 1 for the Apple 23-inch display in the Final Cut Pro suite here in the office. It works great. However, we tested it on the Sony broadcast monitor that sits beside the system and, what we achieved were rather inaccurate results. For these types of monitors, we rely on a calibration gun. Broadcast monitors are still the reference for accurate broadcast color output in tv-commercials we post on FCP.

But for your purpose, I do recommend the Eye-One. Whichever version you buy. Just don't forget to turn your room light off. It will give you good calibration results.

Thanks for the feedback, I placed the order already for version 1. Got two units: one for me, one for Chairman. Using JAC to ship to Manila.

Who among you ordered this from JR.com? According to UPS package tracking, mine and Chairman's was delivered to JAC head office yesterday. Who else is using JAC to ship to Manila?

WE have an Eyeone also in the office. It's pretty decent.

It's the cheapest colorimeter around- the One Eye. It calibrates your monitor. I bought one for $60 USD. As far as fitting in in my workflow, I still have to figure out how to calibrate my film and flatbed scanners. My printer, of course has to be calibrated as well. I'm new to the RGB work process. I'm just starting to use Adobe 1998 now.
