Default Canon Powershot S1 IS Reviews

Im planning to get this for Xmas, and I've searched most Internet Review Sites. Still have some questions not answered. Maybe, since most Muggers are Canon fans, you can help me:

    1. how is the lag time?
    2. is the price worth it?
    3. how's the battery?
    4. flash is good at very low lighting (discos, clubs, bars)

    TIA

my friend has this. i dont like that much zoom, since even with the IS that much Zoom gives me blurred pix if i use it. Since its pretty small to handle, di ganun ka-stable. I heard the video capabilities is ok, but then so does the newer digicams. The battery for this is AA name diba ? so u can use rechargables. Didnt test the flash. I actually hate using flash since it flattens the subject and siyempre affects the colors. Mas type ko talaga available light na shots. Hindi rin naman siguro nagkakalayo lag time ng mga compact digicams eh. Although, some has quickshot features. Pero thats something we have to bear unless you go a bit high end.

It depends on what type of shots you like taking. Personally, I would prefer the A95 for this price range. i think thats 27k sa Malls, but i called up Mayer sa Hidalgo and its around 19/20K daw. Its 5 MP and has the same vari-angle LCD which is pretty usefull.

Interesting for me is the new Ixus 40, i prefer something compact talaga.
It has a larger LCD, nice body finish, but batteries are limited daw.
If i want high end features like the Zoom , ill go for higher models like the G6 or Pro 1 or a Digital SLR. Since you have naman a Sony DSC-P32, why not save up for something higher ? Prices of DSLRs are falling and madami second hand.
The S1 IS is 3 MP and your DSC-P32 is the same i think ..so not much improvement there ..maybe you dont have to spend for a digicam this xmas.
Why not a Sony camcorder na lang ? Thats what Im thinking about kasi ..

To summarize my thoughts on Canon options :
if you want something compact and stylish, i like the new Ixus 40.
If you want good value, AA batteries and that Vari-Angle lens, go for the A95 or even an A80 (baka mas mura pa since older model)
If you want high end features , go for a DSLR na lang, even a G6 or a second hand G5. I sold mine for just 25k and I also see others posting at about the same price.

Is the price of the S1 worth it ? depends on what price you will be able to get it.

    Hope this helps

Dude, go to google and you will see lots of reviews of this unit.

I would suggest though that you buy a second hand 300D Digital SLR which will give you better control of shots, lens options, no shutter delays, and far more higher quality pictures.

I sold 2 months ago P39,000- I am sure you can find others selling to upgrade.

i just ordered the Canon Powershot A95. i'm excited to receive it. it should come in tomorrow. along with the A95, i bought a Sandisk 512mb Ultra II Compact flash card and Maha Powerex rechargeable 2200 batteries.

i always use to use a compact size as my major factor for purchasing a digital camera, but i think now i want more functionality....basically more manual controls. compact cameras are great if you just want to carry it in your pocket, but i'm finding myself less and less carrying my small digital camera with me. plus, i also have my phone for those emergency shots...hehehe!!!!

anyways, i'm kind of excited about getting my A95. it'll come in tomorrow. now, i get to document the holidays much better this year. maybe in a few years, i'll jump up to the SLRs. right now, i'm just a basic user that wants some quality shots.

    A95 + 512mb + MAHA Batteries = P22700

thanks for the tips guys. but i would have to say, the reason why i'm considering the powershot s1 is: first, its right on the budget 20k. second, it's easier to carry than dslrs. third, for it's level, it boasts 10x optical zoom which i need for my day to day activities.

im not really sure of the A95, haven't read any reviews about it. if you guys have tried it already, can you share some points esp regarding shutter lag? im very particular about shutter delay kasi eh.

as to the 300D, im not so sure if i will be ready for a DSLR. my brother is an amateur photographer, and he uses nikon D70. haven't really ventured or even tried to compare DSLRs available in the market. anyways, anyone selling their 300D?

For your budget the_butcher, I can say that the S1 IS will serve you will. I had the previous model the Canon Pro90IS and it was my camera too for a year and I learned a lot using it. The 10x zoom will provide great reach, and the video capability which is close to a camcorder is a fun addition of course! Ok na yun pare for P20T that is cheap. 300D pre-owned will cost double your budget.
