Canon Australia apparently leaked this product then pulled it off. Good thing I've managed to snag the image and saved a pdf file on my desktop. There seems to be a problem uploading the pdf file and the image to my iDisk. I wonder why? Thanks to Randy for the link.
Here are the specs (copied and pasted from the pdf file):
• Standard zoom lens - 24-105mm focal length, fast f/4 aperture
• Super UD glass lens and two types of aspherical elements effectively correct aberration
• Image Stabilizer gives equivalent effect of a shutter speed three stops faster during hand-held shooting
• Optimised lens coating to minimise ghosting and flare
• High dust and moisture resistance for use in harsh environments
• Closest focus distance of just 45cm at all zoom focal lengths
• Circular aperture producing attractive background defocus
• Inner focusing, ring USM and new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing
• Manual focusing enabled even during AF mode (full-time mechanical manual focus)
• Only environmentally friendly lead-free glass used in lens construction
Hopefully Canon would still continue releasing prime lenses. They are really sharp wide open or even stopped down a bit. One trades off flexibility in favor of higher image quality. But that's coming from a "pixel peeper's" point of view.
For that price, I would rather choose the 24-70L f2.8 then, price is almost the same...but you lose the wider coverage and portability. I think IS is not that significant for a medium telephoto.
