    Default Canon 20D Weird Problem

I havd my 20D for approximately 4 months... was happy with it... then a weird thing happened one day at the office...

I did a test shot (together with the speedlite), reviewed and erased the picture and was ready to take the next shot. After composing the shot, i clicked the shutter and something weird happened...

I saw err 99 on the lcd screen... keeping my cool, i checked the manual and did what was written (even sent an SMS to Ditoy)... nothing happened. To my surprise the shutter started clicking even when the unit is turned off!!! :upset: I changed the lens, took out the battery, etc and still nothing happened.

So I took it to Canon Megamall (where I got it) saturday morning and guess what? The people there told me that they do not accept repairs for digital (when I purchased the unit they told sa kanila repairs, sheesh).

I went to the service center the following monday and had it ICUed... the one who took my camera told me that this is the 1st time she encountered this kind of a problem (which made me a bit nervous).

It's been almost 2 weeks now... still no word from Canon. Last time I called them they have yet to diagnose my unit. On top of it, it took my secretary almost the whole day just to reach them (either walang sumasagot or busy)...

any of you encountered the same problem (err 99)? If so then better bring it there asap. As for the "service reputation" of Canon, I have yet to give my own view about this...

Iba pala pag wala kang bitbit na cam... feels very weird

Had the same problem while shooting the UAAP! Turning it off, then On again, or changing the lens didn't solve the problem. I just removed the batteries from the grip, then switched the two batteries around, then it worked! It is weird, I read that it is a battery grip problem that Canon repairs for free...just don't have time to go take it to Canon yet.

Powerpee.. Error99 is the Error in Canon cameras when the camera doesnt know exactly what went wrong, if im not mistaken.. there's a chart of specific error numbers and Err99 is the "duh.." one.. happens sometimes when using 3rd party lenses or any other error under the sun the cam doesnt know of..

about the battery grip mayb Canon Philippines can repair/replace it for you coz CAnon USA just offered repairs to specific grips with particular serial numbers in the US..

    Pat,

Yep, i checked the chart sa instruction manual, that's the reason why I decided to bring it to Canon (I don't use non Canon lenses by the way since I only haev the stock lens and a telephoto lens). As for the battery grip, i told them about the recall and guess what? They don't know anything about it. The girl looked a bit surprised when I told her about it...

yikes, i hope it doesn't happen to the 300d and 350d models though...

anyway, canon showrooms in megamall and other malls are are not under/operated by canon philippines i believe...

but still bummer that they tell you they can't accept servicing for digital...
