    Default THE ALCOVE | Photography 101 Class

    For those of you who are very new to photography, I highly recommend attending this class. I attended Jay's class and all I can say is its the best P2,500 I ever spent. Again, this is just for those who want to learn the basics. Jay's a very good teacher and very easy to talk to.

    ===========================

    Photographs are captured memories. They are visual records of life's precious moments, which is why it is second nature to make sure a camera is handy at special events. Beyond this, photographs can also be expressions of art. Photography has become the most widespread visual art of our time, with an expanding base of practitioners and enthusiasts who learn to appreciate the value of a well-taken photograph.

    The Alcove Photo Gallery offers beginners the chance to take their photography skills beyond the point-and-shoot level. From May 3 to 7, 2004 (6-9 p.m.), professional photographer Jay Alonzo will guide novices through the fundamentals of photography at the Filipinas Heritage Library's Reading Room. Mr. Alonzo shoots product and celebrity photos for various commercial applications, and has worked with Sony Philippines, World Arts Cinema and Regal Films. He has been teaching and conducting workshops since 1996.

    This week-long workshop, Photo 101: Photography for Beginners will cover the essentials of photography: understanding film, the camera, lighting concepts, metering and exposure setting, composition, and the application of these elements. Designed for those with limited knowledge in the field of photography, the course integrates lecture time, actual photo shoots, and critique sessions.

    Registration for Photo 101 runs until April 28, 2004. Participants will be required to bring a 135-format film-based SLR, Rangefinder or Digital camera with manual exposure control.

    The Alcove Photo Gallery is housed at the Filipinas Heritage Library, Makati Avenue, Ayala Triangle, Makati City (across The Peninsula Manila). Please call 892-1801 / 7593371,
