    Default 20d Battery Grip(e)

Question po for all 20D users using the BG-E2 battery grip: Have you experienced the so-called battery gripe that some people have been complaining about?

    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=10895985

I did. One afternoon was surprised to see the battery low indicator on my 20d, so i charged it. After charging (made sure it was charged since I was going to shoot that evening), i placed my fresh batteries (yup, i charged both) on the battery grip and NO -- it still gives me a low battery reading. Feeling hopeless, i removed the battery grip and placed the battery on the 20d (body) battery compartment, and it gave me a full charge.

To cut the long story short, i placed the grip again and it worked na. Pero sometimes when im shooting, i really feel parang the screw (holding the grip to the body) gets loose. So knowing that would happen, I just always have to tighten the screw so it doesn't fall.

Its not (yet) a big deal, but would like to hear lang if you guys have experienced that na.

    Thanks,

    Ingrid

Never had this happen to me. As you have already mentioned, grip contacts to the body my need some cleaning, specially if you shoot a lot out doors. Get some contact cleaner and wipe them after every out door shoot.

Ingrid, this happens to me all the time. I replied to your message at PhPhoto, but for the benefit of those here that have the same problem, here is my reply again:

    ---

I have the same problem Ingrid. First time it happened, I switched the
camera to "off" but everything was still on. I could shoot while the
camera was "off." Second time it happened, the camera would give me
focus confirmation but it would not let me trip the shutter no matter
what I pressed. And both times happened in the middle of a paid shoot.

I've also experienced two fully charged batteries reading only half
    when the grip is inserted.

All those times, I had isolated the problem to two things: the battery
grip and the stroboframe. The stroboframe is darn heavy and when
shooting horizontally, it pulls the grip away from the body loosening
    the power connections.

I use a Stroboflip and a 550EX. The weight of the frame plus the flash
is just too heavy to be supported by the grip. I've learned my lesson
and am now using a monopod to support the weight of the entire thing.
Yun nga lang, I have to mount a Manfrotto quick release plate sideways
underneath the grip kasi kung proper mounting, it won't fit into the
    monopod's head.

Nowadays, whenever it happens, I just take the grip off and then put
it back again. And of course, I avoid using the Stroboframe unless
absolutely necessary. Besides, the thing is so heavy with the frame.

    God bless,

    Nono

There you go, as an after thought, constantly removing the grip would affect these connections one way or another. In my case, the grip never, never came off since I bought the darn thing. Touch wood, never had a problem with my 10d. Love it!

I don't have your kind of camera but I have always used rubber O-rings to keep loose screws in place.

Saw some yesterday at Hidalgo. Retails for about 8k Specifically at Avenue and Henry's.

Saw also the BG-E1 for y'all rebel users. Retails for about 4k. Interesting how the E2 is twice as expensive.
