It's about time they released an 'upgrade' to the D70 and I'm particularly interested to see what the D50 specs are.

competition is getting tighter! but nikon should fix their service here in Pinas to gain more customers.

I seriously doubt if Nono's giving up his Canon System! But Regie's right, Nikon (or Columbia) should get their act together... our same old gripe as always...

Not in a million years. Interesting lang how the successor to the D70 will match up against the 350D, and the pricepoint of the supposed 'D50' - will it be cheap enough to get prosumers to buy it? I mean will it be priced in the same range as maybe the most expensive Coolpix? Or even cheaper?

Hmmm... this is going to make my decision-making harder! I was set on the Canon 350D but I think I'll wait for Nikon's release.

In addition to this, Nikon will be introducing a second D-SLR, specifically designed for consumers looking to upgrade from a digital compact to the next level of digital photography.

    That's me, for sure!

Haha! I'm surprised you can hold out from buying a Canon! When I joined philmug, I wasn't instantly aware of a large Canon community within as well. But waiting is always good...

I doubt any Canon user, specially those who have had the opportunity to experience Nikon's service in the Philippines, will go back, and give up their Canon gear. I for one came from the D1x several years back, do not have any regrets. In fact, i've moved up from the 1D to the 1D mkll and from the 10D to the 20D. Technology and image output is a very relative discussion. All of them have their pros and cons. Nikon just has very weak marketing presence in the country, and that goes to show how important this market is to them. In spite of Canon's dominance in this DSLR market, Nikon will still have very serious followers, specially in the lens and SLR film body market. I still keep my old Nikon Film SLR's.......nostalgia reasons.:roll:

i think initially the d70 was made to compete with 300d of canon. but as it turned out, the d70 packed more features than the 300d (or even 350d for that matter, megapixel aside) its even eating up the market of its own brother d100.

the new d50 should be the direct competitor now of 300/350d in terms of functions and target market.

and if the d70s (or d90?) should pack 8mp or so, then it would be very interesting for us nikon users

one thing nice about canon here is that its now directly under canon japan. so they have more resources and better services.

while nikon on the other hand does not have any direct office here in the philippines. not even columbia is directly under nikon nor financially supported by nikon japan.

well their service is slowly picking up now. i had my d70 serviced not long ago, and it was done the next working day. i was expecting it to be staying for a week or so. hopefully, they will keep up with that kind of service
