    Default 2.5 GigaPixel Picture

Hi guys! Take a look at this site

Dutch research institute TNO has unveiled what it believes is the largest digital photograph in the world. The image contains 2.5 gigapixels or 7.5 gigabyte worth of data. It is composed of 600 single images shot by a computer-controlled pan-tilt unit in 7 second intervals. Afterwards, all photos where stiched together using the capacity of 5 high-end pc's in about 24 hours time.

I wonder if they used Powermac G5s.. Amazing..

If that's amazing, how about a 4 GigaPixel output already discussed here?

Wow, that image is amazing, to be able to zoom in and pan that way... that really is something else. I actually found Waldo! (joke).

From the plate numbers on the parked cars, the building signages, the street signs, the architecture and the people biking, I would say the photo was taken in the Netherlands. I wonder if I'm right.

Try to figure out where in the photo I found this car. Better yet, find the golden arches. I found a McDonald's in the photo.

p.s. I just noticed that the website has a .nl domain, Netherlands nga. duh!

Is it a bus? Is it a car? It's a carbus! Well, that's what 7 second intervals will do.

Still, I'm so amazed. I can't stop zooming in a studying the details. I guess it's the 'snooper' in me keeping me up at this unholy hour.

There's a small group of photographers in the US that uses a large format camera (that's about 8x10") but instead of using sheet film they use modified FLAT BED scanners. I think exposure takes about 3-5 minutes depending on the light and scanner resolution.
