And if you want to bring it to the next level...

    Use Logic Studio.

The latest versions are always the best but if you're coming from Adobe Audition then I assume that you're not a novice anymore. Logic & Pro Tools is easy to learn as long as you're willing to learn it. Ableton Live is actually a lil easier to learn & a lil bit cheaper too. You can also check out Motu's Digital Performer, Propellerhead's Reason & Mackie's Tracktion. Just google for tutorials. Happy hunting!

Btw, if you also looking for an audio interface, you might wanna check out M Audio. They have some interfaces available. For Pro Tools though, you can get the M Box Audio Interface.

M-audio FW 410 is a good interface for your midi & audio home studio production. (But, in many instances, a FW 410 is buggy to use with a mac. It also has a poor app support. Almost always, the interface is not detected so that you have to keep on rebooting your mac to detect it.)

But for a modest and less expensive setup, a FW 410 will do. This, if you are going to use Logic, for instance, and not Pro-tools. (A FW410 can use other audio/editing software, with pro-tools, if i get it right, you're kinda stuck with their own hardware. Thus, if you use a pro-tools M-box, you cannot use logic with it.)

With a FW410, you can connect your keyboard and use it as a controller to activate logic's built in softsynths (midi recording); you can also connect your guitar to record your screaming riffs (and be able to use Logic's magnificent Guitar Amp Pro that can replicate many guitar sounds from heavy metal to soothing acoustics); you can also connect a microphone to record your voice; and you can connect monitor speakers to it.

The free, open source editor is Audacity, and has both Mac and PC versions. Google it. Its just multi-track audio recording and editing, and no MIDI. But it will suffice for most simple audio editing work.
