Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
Hi guys,
Been keeping track on the Trigger Finger for several months now and I just recently bought one. My problem is that I'm having a hard time figuring out how to assign Ableton Live's effects and faders to the TF's knobs and sliders.
I'm using the TF with my iMac G5 and powerbook G4, using Live Lite 6 enhanced edition with Enigma version 1.1 (149). I also use it with Garageband.
So far I have no problems with using and assigning instruments with the TF's pads, but still I cant use the TF's other features like the knobs and sliders. I want to be able to have control of the volume, faders, etc using the TF's knobs etc. (including programming the 4 uppermost pads) with certain clips.
I never thought it would be this difficult and complicated to operate the TF even with the bundled Live Lite program. Those tutorials especially the included manual doesnt really help much. Tried searching for answers on the net for more than three days now but still having a difficult time.
Am I missing something here? I'd appreciate any help for a novice like me...

Re: Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
hitman, i have the clips of my trigger assigned to the buttons as well and have the volume and some filter controls on the dials. I just assigned it as usual. Cmd+M, select the control you want to assign on the screen, move the slider or knob (and you will see that its address will show up in the screen beside the dial or slider you want to assign to it), and Cmd+M again.
I havent tried assigning a slider or knob to do stuff like rotate between different clips, if thats the thing you want to do.
I dont use enigma to assign anything.

Re: Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
Tried using the Cmd+M option as you suggested and even tried clicking the MIDI Map Mode Switch as the alternate option. At the bottom most part of the Live screen it says "Press a MIDI key or move a MIDI controller to make an assignment."
Even as I move the knobs and/or MIDI controller, the MIDI mappings doesnt respond. Hmmmm...

Re: Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
hitman, before you move the knob or slider, did you click the knob or slider on the screen first, the one you want to assign? it worked fine for me.

Re: Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
zChris, yes I did man. What could I be possibly be doing wrong? I either use Cmd+M or the MIDI Map Mode Switch until the controls on the screen gets highlighted then I click/select on the function I need to assign on the TF, move the sliders up and down but there's no response. I use Cmd+M again to close the MIDI mappings.

Re: Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
I finally got it to work. Restarted Live a couple of times (after freezing and force quitting it twice). Without changing a single setting Live just started responding to the the MIDI Mapping. Couldnt figure out what went wrong but I'm glad it's finally working. The knobs and sliders syncs with Live and the Cmd+M function.
Thanks zChris.

Re: Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
just a question... have you already activated it in the prefferences tab? double check it there. hit the "midi" button on the top right. when all the controls are higlighted, click on the control you want to map. once clicked, move the knob or fader than hit the "midi" button again. you should be able to map it at once. if you're still having problems, double check you cable connection or port. you don't need enigma to help you out.

Re: Trigger Finger, Enigma, Live Help
Ey travism, I have been doing this procedure since the day I got it but Live wasn't communicating with the Trigger. But it's working now (for some strange reason, or could it have been a bug?) and I can practically map all of those knobs and faders to LIve.
I'm so hooked to Live Lite 6 that I'm saving up for the full version. Sobrang bitin ako dun track and effects limitations ng Live Lite.
So far I cant seem to control the tempo accurately with Trigger Finger's faders/knobs, so I think I might have to work around that. It's great that I can utilize garageband's aiff/apple loops with my version of Live although the bass loops sound like its on over mode.
I'm not sure if it was a great idea buying my Trigger at JB because they only offer one week warranty on parts and like six months on service. I find this a bit strange considering its an expensive piece of equipment.
Does crystal audio or other m-audio resellers offer the same "so-so" warranty on their instruments?
@ travism, I'd like to see you spin with your TF someday. Perhaps give me a few tips. ;-)
