    Default Survey on Music Equipment

    Hi there!

Doing a survey for a friend of mine.

Basically, he just closed a deal with a leading company that manufactures and distributes different hardware and software tools for the computer-centric musician. Just wanted to know what gear people who make music using computers, whether amateur or professional, would want to get here in Manila?

He decided to bring this brand in to address an evident lack of MIDI controllers in the Philippine market. I, for one get my MIDI controllers and interfaces from abroad and if I'm not mistaken most professional musicians do the same. Let me know what types, whether it be MIDI keyboards, surfaces, microphones, audio interfaces, digital pianos, DJ equipment.

Please reply to this thread so I can advice my friend as he is currently fixing his product order.

    Thanks!

ah ok well i for one would like to see more MIDI keyboard controllers, software instruments, home recording equipment. Many people come up to me asking what to buy for their first MIDI setup and i always recommend getting a laptop/MIDI controller setup. it used to be complicated (like buying a MIDI interface, hardware keyboards, mixer, speakers) but now a almost everything can be produced just by software and minimal hardware.

I know what you mean. It's amazing what you can do with a MIDI controller, a laptop, the right software and the internal mic of your computer.

Your friend must carry the whole line, not just a few selected products, and give it the proper focus it deserves. That is the role of a distributor. Musician customers of course want a wide assortment of music equipment to choose from.
Human beings, they're quite a paradox. At first glance they're so primitive: genetic impurities, no telepathy, violent, and yet they've created so many beautiful ways to convey their ideas - literature, art, music. [#98 In the Flesh]

DJ controllers for me. But I dont really need it because I use CD and Vinyl. Will be a nice toy I'd consider buying if the price is right though.

not only that, they must have excellent after-sales service. most music distributors here after getting your hard-earned money, bahala ka na. even Yupangco takes a long time fixing keyboards.

i'd like to see the coming together of laptop DJ-ing & production... m audio, korg & edirol are the usual choices but maybe a couple of more products could be brought to the table. stuff like CME, EMU, monitor speakers & more preamp or external soundcard choices.
i'd also like a music equipment shop with people who know their stuff but are approachable. i used to work in tower records... we knew our stuff musically but if we didn't have stock, we would recommend stuff that the customer might like. know what i mean?
i guess what i'm saying is more variety of products and better service. (that includes after market too...)
also, the products should be up-to-date coz alot of people here are... i have some friends who are still in highschool and they ask me how they can make music themselves. i always tell em to go their own and go independent. with tools like the internet, software and hardware the possibilities are endless... hehehe
