Mashups/Bastard Pop
Mashups have become my latest musical obsession.
From Richard Cheese and Lounge Against The Machine's "Vegas style lounge versions of today's pop hits" (incidentally one of his band members looks suspiciously Pinoy) to the easy listening remakes of the Mike Flowers Pops, what essentialy started out as novelty has actually produced a few song versions that are IMO actually as good or (gasp) even better than the originals.
Some mashup attempts are a bit too inane for my tastes (Beatallica comes to mind), but there's no denying the fact, that these acts are at the very least, interesting.
My favorite act of the moment is Max Raabe and Das Palast Orchester which specializes in "recreating the sound of German dance and film music of the 1920s and 1930s." They have their own versions of hits like "We Will Rock You", "Oops I Did It Again", "Tainted Love", "Sex Bomb" and "Mambo No.5". Sobrang ganda!
So, do you guys have your own favorite mashup artists?

I guess my first real encounter with a mashup was with the Loung-a-Palooza CD. I love the rendition of Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun by Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme. Freaky!

This is something I cooked up on Garageband. Not a mashup but more like a mess up.

Gabe, counted ba ang "Sharon Sings Alcasid"? Ang laki ng billboard sa EDSA! This issue of Wired talks about Remixing in all its forms.
In the same issue of Wired, they made mention of the The Phantom Edit, where fanboys have made versions of Episode I without Jar-Jar Binks!
I guess the point of mashups and remixes is making old thing new again. But, in the world of dance music and electronica, it really seems to be more focused on the remix and not the record. It's funny how you hear a lot of samples of old songs now in the latest house tracks. From Fleetwood Mac to Steve Winwood.

Hmmm. Counted nga ba ang Sharon signs Alcasid?
Tough question.
I have nothing to back me up but I wouldn't think so, since essentialy both are balladeers so it's probably just a cover.
