Filipino talent in the field of popular music is innate. From the lady diva to the singer-songwriter, from the technically tight rock band to the natural rhythm of a rapper, the Filipino has excelled in almost all aspects of popular music. Some have even reached international status. It is just natural that Filipino talent is also present in other forms of music that may not be as popular with mainstream audiences, such as the ever-progressing Electronic Music.

It is the year 2006. . . . . A new movement has begun:
LOCAL//:e! - couchLab’s Juno Oebanda, Spin City/Tribo Manila’s Roberto Sanchez, Jimmy “DJ PATCH” Gustilo, Adrian Cuenca and Don Don “Houseboy” Renato -- all veterans of our continually growing club scene and are known for their artistic integrity - spearhead this new crusade. A collective effort to unify the growing DJ scene, to increase awareness and appreciation of the creativity of our local DJs and to expose locally produced electronica – to encourage production of original material regardless of genre or sub-genre, to share technical knowledge of music production, software and hardware, to provide a venue for discussion of topics that will push our electronica scene and its accompanying culture to reach its full potential in both the local and international markets.

LOCAL//:e! is an informal but powerful thrust to open communication between artists/DJs/producers and bar/resto/club owners , promoters, event organizers, ad agencies, live reinforcement suppliers and anyone else interested in championing our underrated but unmistakably stellar professional DJ talent.

The front line of the Local//:E! movement has been mainly music producers, with the ultimate focus being on our pro DJs. The initial roster includes some of the brightest stars of our local electronica scene: Abdel Aziz, Awit Awardee – Artstrong, Brian Cua, couchLab, Far South, International recording artist Funk Avy, Houseboy, Looploco, Patch, Rubber Inc, Silverfilter, tribomanila, Trip M, and visual artists Scratchmedia. Local//:E! has also collaborated with popular artists of other genres, namely Jay Cayuca, Jun Lopito, Juan Pablo Dream, Nyko Maca, the Dawn and Joey Ayala, creating a world-class fusion with a uniquely Pinoy flavor. Also under the umbrella are collaborations involving performance, literary and visual art, film, fashion and graphic design.

It has begun and is now underway. Insularity and close-mindedness shall be overcome. Anyone with a passion for electronica and the desire to see Filipinos finally take center stage in this field is welcome to support and participate in any way.
