Or you can search for the new Toshiba 200GB SATA drives in tipidpc. Bought one 1 month ago, and installed it in my macbook.

Also, since the migration to the intel architecture, USB is not so bad with macs. I bought a 2.5" generic SATA USB enclosure for my old 60GB HDD. Worked when I was transferring my volume to my drive. It also was working as a secondary external storage up until I sold it to finance a purchase of an APE.

    Hope this helps.

Bossing, I've narrated my HDD migration in this thread:

You can either go via Hannibal's route or my own.

    Hope it helps!

If you are going the DIY external FW enclosure route MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT YOU DO NOT GET A PROLIFIC 3507 chipset. Trust me.

That's what I originally thought. But the guy from Toshiba noted that there is no practical speed difference in use, and as far as I'm concerned there is none.

Also, doing some research on it, the drive uses new technology vs the usual technology. Net result is a more-densely packed platter that should give you the same or better access times as a 5400 rpm drive.

I checked out the specs and the 200GB 4200 RPM Toshiba is just as fast as a 5400 Seagate in terms of access time. Of course, when you compare it to a 7200 rpm drive there is no contest, pero it's just a difference of 1-2ms on the average.

Plus, mas mura sa tipidpc vs retail. Yun nga lang, caveat emptor. Buy only from guys with lotsa + feedback.

On using external FireWire drives daisy-chained to external sound cards like the M-Audio FireWire 410 which has dual FW400 ports at the back, it's best to connect the hard drive to an external power plug.

Now that Apple brought back FW800 on the 15" MBP, I could use that port instead for attaching an external FW800 hard drive like the LaCie Little Big Disk, G-Raid mini, or G-Drive mini, so the other FW400 can be used solely for an external sound card so it won't saturate the FireWire bus.
