Djing? how to start?
I've been a fan of house and trance music for quite a while now. It always made me wonder... what's up behind d turn tables? Can I make my own music too?
Sirs, would somebody lend a hand and give me good infos in what equipments should i buy and where?
and after acquring the equipments... what's next? could anyone lead me to the right path where i can explore and create my own stuff? Thanks.
Thanks in advance...
-Humbly yours, DJ wannabe

Re: Djing? how to start?
while i'm no pro dj by any means, i think it would be best if you start with a basic dj setup of two turntables or cd decks (both should have pitch controlling capabilities) and a simple two-channel audio mixer just to get the gist of it (counting beats, knowing your bpms, beatmatching, synchronizing, cutting, maybe a few basic scratches here and there)...once you get the whole thing together, you can probably add in the midi controllers, keyboards, drum machines into your arsenal...constant practice would help too...just my two cents...heh!

decide first, turntables or cd players? or both... regarding equipment and software, its up to you on how much you are willing to spend.

well, i think cd players would be more appropriate and comfortable on my part... or will i be a less dj because i use cd players instead of turntables?
regarding buget... can anyone give me a sample quotation? Djing starter kit or something... i pretty have a budget to spare naman eh... and where can i buy the equipments?

Re: Djing? how to start?
learn the foundation first... start with vinyl. then move to cds then evolve to mp3s. build a solid foundation skillwise & you won't go wrong. get your self a pair of 2nd hand technics sl1200s & a mixer. start right...
regarding starter kits... you can go and shop around. it's fun looking at stuff. you can check out pioneer, numark, stanton & vestax. these are normally the brands you'll encounter locally. if i were you, get a starter kit from pioneer (they have a dj in a box kit whichs includes a pair of cdj100s and a djm300) and a pair of 2nd hand technics sl1200s. learn on that first... then move on to mp3 via traktor scratch, torq connectiv, serato or FS2 open.
i've been DJ-ing pro since 98 and it's best to learn the basics before evolving... trust me, you don't have to have a fancy set up... just learn the basics and like my good friend told me when i was starting: "Practice Practice Practice!" hehehe
good luck on your quest young jedi...

@blueadam88: First thing you need to learn is how to beatmatch. And the guy for you is Jessie Suaco. He has his school called Spin City and you may reach him at 09178570987. He was the DJ who opened the set forFerry Corsten when he was here in Manila last December.
Currently they are located in Kalayaan near Fort Bonifacio but just got word from him that they are expanding in Paseo soon.
