connecting external speakers to iMac
i have an Altec Lansing VS4121 (which came from my Windows PC setup), and i'd like to connect them to the Intel-based iMac. however, when i tried doing so, there was no sound coming out of the VS4121. i noticed that the plug was slightly raised, and i cannot fully insert it. i wouldn't want to force it in unless i am sure it will fit.
my questions:
- what is the size of the audio-out port of the Intel-based Imac? i cannot find it in the specs from the Apple website. i think the VS4121 uses a 3.5mm jack.
- is there an adaptor available which i could use for this set-up?
- has anyone tried connecting external speakers to the Intel-based iMac? how was the experience? better than the built-in speakers?
thanks in advance.

Re: connecting external speakers to iMac
Just plug your speakers' 3.5mm plug all the way. If you're nervous about it, play around by plugging any headphone to your iMac first. Your iMac is new and I expect all of your ports to be gratifyingly snug for now.

Re: connecting external speakers to iMac
go to the system preferences and click on the sounds icon and check if your external speakers are identified. If not try to plug it more. Once it is identified. click on the new speakers that should be included there.
