Gimp can do much - it is free. Uhm... Photoshop CS3 can be had for a price - supposedly the leading standard in image editing.

photoshop cs3 runs like a charm. even on just a macbook.. just ensure you have at least a gig of ram though.. if you plan to run cs3 on this one.

you think your macbook's limited? i used to have a powerbook ti g4 from year 2000 that ran the CS3 beta well enough, your macbook can definitely run the best photo editing softwares!

ummm photoshop cs3 would do the job well. you still have aperture and iphoto to choose from.

aperture 1.5(counterpart of lightroom, windows), or simply the built-in iPhoto, and ofcourse cs3(but the price will let you think twice=P).
you try iPhoto, it has the basic photo-tweaking interface, though tad basic compare to those mentioned above.=)have a nice day=)
