•Create the appropriate size box using 'rounded rectangular tool'.
• Merge this with a new empty layer
•With 'eyedropper tool' select color of the original graphic. Click the top of the box to foreground and bottom color to background or choose your own color.
•Option-click the layer of the box to select it and apply the 'gradient tool'. Make sure it's set to the default gradient.
• Create a new layer and make a round selection using the 'elliptical marquee tool' to the appropriate size holding down shift for a perfect proportional circle.
• Press 'd' to reset foreground background to default black and white, then press 'x' to set black on the background.
• Press command-delete to fill the selection with background color 'black'.
• Set the font to ITC Zapf Dingbats then using 'type tool' type shift-option-m over the black circle for the arrow and merge the two layers.
• Type "download now" or the appropriate text over the box using Helvetica bold.
• Using 'move tool' position all elements accordingly then merge all layers.

Hi slacker when I do the gradient tool the whole window filled up with color. I merged all the layers using "Merge Layer". What did I do wrong?

Make sure that your rectangular box is still selected before you apply the gradient tool so that is the only one that gets filled. Otherwise, you "fill" the entire space or canvas.
If you're making a webpage, try working with webpage design software such as Dreamweaver. They have buttons like that. You don't have to create them anymore.

Wasabi2me's right. Option clicking the layer (in the layer palette) of the box will select it. Then you could apply a gradient to it.

wrong. it should be "command + click" instead of "option + click" the layer to select. a running marquee selection will appear on the edge of the image and that's the only time where you can fill it with color.
