Books for designers and artists
After organizing our books, I was pleasantly surprised that my collection of design-related titles was able to fill-up a small separate bookshelf of its own. Some are more dog-eared than most. My most used titles include the ff:
- AIGA Professional Practices in Graphic Design By Tad Crawford, American Institute of Graphic Arts - discusses proposals, contracts, ethics, etc.
- Web and New Media Pricing Guide by JP Frenza & Michelle Szabo - pricing for web and other multimedia work
- From Edison to iPod By Frederick Mosert & Lawrence Apolzon - intellectual property for noobs
- Information Design Workbook by Kim Baer - case studies, inspiration for information design projects
I'll post more in the future.
I'm curious about the design books you find interesting and helpful to your craft. Share your list!
Pls. follow this format:

1. Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far by Stefan Sagmeister
2. Chip Kidd : Book One : Work : 1986-2006 by Chip Kidd
both books are good for when you're looking for inspiration or even if you just want to look at beautiful things.

Re: Books for designers and artists
Books that have helped me with design and particularly with web design

I highly recommed Grid Systems and Making and Breaking the Grid. These are two very fundamental but very essential books that have helped me understand and apply grid based design to almost everything I do.
For aspiring web designers I highly recommend "The Zen of CSS Design" so you can finally stop using Photoshop to generate webpages for you and actually learn the art of beautiful semantic markup. The book showcases complex website designs that were implemented with semantic markup and css - without using tables for layouts (which a sliced psd file would do by default)

Graphis is an international publisher of designer works. They have some of the world's best designed showcases, from environmental graphics, to photography, to typogrpahy. They are most sought after by designers in every field, and are very fancily made - albeit expensive.
Check them out if you want to order.

Its every design studio's objective to have these on its library.
