Yahoo! SMS
I recently discovered that Yahoo! Messenger has a 'Login to Mobile' command that allows 2-way virtual chats between a mobile subscriber and a YM account. Instructions for both Globe and SMART subcribers are available. A message sent from a mobile phone to a YM account is P2.50, but sending from a YM account is free.

Hi Marvin.
Just want to clarify if it is indeed free. I read the Terms of Service and it says otehrwise:
(a) your mobile phone number (MSISDN) will be used during the transmission of text messages through the Yahoo! 2SMS Service,
(b) a standard fee of P2.50 to send messages (subject to any promotion rates by Globe) will be charged to your Globe bill for each SMS sent from your mobile phone number,
Thanks.

owel. so long as the messages aren't important, i guess it's ok.
kainis lang, one time kasi an old friend texted me about chatting online, and i logged on as soon as i got it, but he was long gone.

Hey Elbert,
As far as I understand the TOS, you'll only be charged P2.50 if you send/reply from your mobile phone number to a YM account. I guess the only way to verify is to check the balance of a prepaid account after sending a message. I'll test it and let you know.

If your phone has WAP capabilities, won't it be cheaper to just log on to your YM through it?
But I guess the downside of this would be that you have to constantly check for messages, instead of just waiting for your phone to alert you.
