I've been on the new firmware for about 15 minutes now.
Signal is two bars less than what is used to be.
However, it hasn't dropped the myDSL connection just yet. The old firmware used to drop the connection every two hours or so.
I'll keep it under observation for a few more hours.

After a few hours on the new firmware and after restarting both the computer and the router, I decided that the new firmware was a piece of cr*p.
On a lark, I decided to install the open source Linksys firmware.
This, on the other hand, is really really good.
I was even able to boost the signal of the router. While the official firmware gave me one bar in the bedroom, after boosting the default tx signal to 40, i'm now on four bars.
Would anyone know if this is in any way dangerous (like will it cause it to bust a chip or something) to the router? I mean, is the default signal strength a hardware limitation that the firmware "overclocks" so to speak, or is it merely an FCC/NTC limitation for household devices?
If you want to try the open source firmware, keep in mind that the open source software is not supported by Linksys and it may void your warranty.

Buddhaboy, I've been experiencing disconnections on my wrt54g router also. Am currently using version 2.02 of the firmware. am not familiar with the open firmware you mentioned. can you tell me a bit more about your experience and where to download? thanks

I've only been using the open source firmware for about half a day. Absolutely no complaints so far.
If you're willing to try it out as well, just click on the blue firmware word in my previous post. It should take you to the download site.

I've done two things which seem to be working regarding the dropped connection problem.
I've reduced the beacon interval from 100 to 50, as well as increased the mw tx to 50.
Whether this has anything to do with less dropped connections, I'm not too sure though.
