    Default WRT54G 2.2 problems

    K before I begin, here's the scenario.

I used to have a v2.0 which I bricked beyond your regular tftp or even logic board shorting... so simply put, its as bricked as a brick can be, and since I tried the motherboard shorting nvram reset procedure, the warranty has been voided already.

So I got myself a new v2.2 a few days ago, but it seems to have it's share of problems.

Whenever I try to transfer files wirelessly, it resets the router (or at least the wlan function) which is annoying since the finder then gets frozen beyond all force quit / terminal quits / logout / shutdown / restarts... which is ONLY remedied by the multi-second power press which forces the shutdown of the powerbook. Sometimes it [the transfer] goes just fine, but most of the time I can expect that reset - especially when viewing or transferring really large files.

Usually the transfer just hangs, then when I check the router, the wlan light is suddenly off... then the whole router blinks (suggesting a reboot) Sometimes it doesn't reboot, but would require me to unplug it (power cycle) it to fix the problem.

In addition to that, the router sometimes resets on its own after a bunch of hours. Or sometimes it's still running, but when I check it's status, I see that it disconnected from the ISP on its own.

I've tried all types of other firmware to try to see if it's just a firmware issue. Linksys, Sveasoft, Wifibox, eWRT, HyperWRT. You name it - still the same issue.

So it leaves me with three suspected problems. It's either the powerbook's networking functions can somehow miraculously generate enough problems on the router to force it to reset, OR that the 2.2 hardware is buggy (since my 2.0 was perfect before I bricked it), OR that my particular box is trash.

I didn't go into details of my network setup because the v2.0 was working fine - and was bricked because of a different reason altogether.

The problem is easily reproduced (usually a wlan related task can do the trick). The second problem (resetting or disconnecting from the ISP for no reason, usually overnight) is probably unrelated to the first, but can also be easily confirmed.

Before I have this warrantied, any other ideas which might isolate and solve whatever the hell is wrong with this? Any linksys guru's out there?
