UPDATE: AirPort Express Help - Wifi Gurus...
Dear WiFi Gurus,
I just got my AirPort Express today, and after 2 long hours of going through Linksys WRT54G + AirPort Express forums, I was finally able to create a stable Airtunes connection between my PowerBook and the living room stereo. Initially I had problems connecting the AirPort Express to my Linksys, the indicator light was blinking amber the whole time. After connecting the AirPort Express directly to the Linksys through the wire, I was finally able to establish an I.P. link between the two using the AirPort Admin Utility, with a stable green indicator light all the way after.
But here are my problems...
1. I was not able to establish a wireless printing session. I connected my HP printer, found the specific model on the menu, but it still refused to print, even with an IP printing config.
2. I was not successful in enabling my AirPort Express to be a signal repeater. I still get the same signal power with the Airport Express whether it is on or off. I have not tried using the Svesoft Firmware, but it has been mentioned that I won't have to download the firmware since I already have the Firmware Version: v2.04.4 when I got my WRT54G. I so desperately want to increase the wifi signal around my house, and I was hoping I could get this thing to boost my signal.
3. Is it ok to leave unit plugged in the whole day? I have this fear that it will have the same "brick" similarities of older Linksys units if kept on the whole day.
I got one out of the three reasons why I bought this AirPort Express. I hope the other two will materialize soon.
Thanks for you time guys. I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say about this.

I'm no Wi-Fi guru, in fact just like you I just got my Airport Express today! The whole afternoon I had so much fun turning the entire newsroom where I work into a wi-fi hotspot (although others who don't know my IP address can't use the connection) and then showing it off to others. I'm not done playing with my new toy!
Anyway to answer your first question: Aren't you supposed to choose Rendezvous from the pop-up menu instead of IP Printing? This is how I setup my HP USB printer.
Hope this helps!

Hey Cyberprince! I'm willing to bet you slooowly opened that white box to find the nice blue box inside. Stared at the unit for a good 2 minutes or so... to finally open the flap where the manual and the drivers are... read it... and plugged your baby right in
I tried Rendezvous but still no cigar... I'll be trying it on another printer tomorrow (fingers crossed)...

My thinking exactly Polar Mac... I think I'll keep it stored if I don't really plan to use it. The peace of mind factor reigns supreme!
By the way.. hows your shuffle hehe

The shuffle is FANTASTIC. I brought it to school and people were wondering how the iPod got so freaking small! They all tried it out, with the new earphones
and they were surprised how such a small thing can throw such a strong punch in sound! I myself was also surprised at how crisp the sound quality of this thing is. On top of that - after 4 hours of usage straight from the box, the thing still has a lot of charge! I am wondering when it will completely discharge before I could begin with my "initial charge" session of 6 hours.
This shuffle is truly an amazing piece of work. The size and the music capacty is perfect for a whole day of work in school with and a good workout after. I can hear the cries of my 3G in the corner...

Hi dude,
To connect your AEX to your linksys, you really need to flash it using Sveasoft firmware. No going around it. Even though Linksys has claimed it has WDS feature with the latest firmware, its just not there. There are no solid reports that it works with AEX without flashing it.
After flashing, follow the directions on this page.

Well, technically, if it kaputs after you leave it on all day, it is still covered by the local warranty. i leave mine on 24/7 so far so good

The Penman
some of my apple peripherals--the powerbook white cube adapter and the airport snow base station--are plugged in 24/7, have been for the past year-and-a-half without problems.

Thanks for the tip Polar_bear and Penmanila. Taking into account the use of this being my back-up wireless router and a range booster when needed, i think i'll just plug it as i need it. But its good to know that this will be safe to plug the whole day should I decide to keep it on 24/7.
