    Default Sending SMS via Bluetooth

    With your Mac of course:

    Ingredients:
1 Mac with Bluetooth at least Mac OS X Panther
    1 Bluetooth compatible phone

    Directions:

    1. Turn Bluetooth ON
Get started by clicking on the ‘Bluetooth’ icon on the
menu bar and scroll down to ‘Turn Bluetooth On’. Now
make sure your phone’s Bluetooth feature is turned on.

    2. Open Address Book
The SMS messaging feature is built in to Mac OS X’s
Address Book feature. Launch it from the Dock or your
‘Applications’ folder by double-clicking on its icon.

    3. Connect to your phone
When Address Book loads, you’ll notice a Bluetooth
icon at the top of the main window. Click on this to get
the program talking to your mobile phone.

    4. Pick a contact
Now choose someone from your Address Book to send
a text message to. Right-click on their mobile phone
number and scroll down to ‘SMS Message’.

    5. Send your message
A small window will pop up. Type your message in
here and press ‘Send’. You’ll get a running tally of how
many characters are left at the bottom of the window.

    6. Receiving messages
As long as your Mac is connected to your phone, you
can receive messages on your Mac, too. Hit ‘Reply’ to
continue the conversation or ‘OK’ to dismiss a message.

    Serves 1 to many.

Wow! All this time this feature was under my nose. Thanks sir Randy!

Does this mean goodbye to BluePhoneElite?

The only thing I don't like about using the Address Book for sending and receiving SMS, is that you have to reconnect the Address Book with the phone manually whenever you step away from the computer with the phone.

With BluePhone Elite, the reconnection is done automatically when the phone is within bluetooth range.

Good point xineizer. I guess the SMS feature of the Address Book is the free alternative to BluePhoneElite.

I'll stick it out with BPE Version 1.0.2 (752). I've gotten used to its interface.

Does this SMS via BT feature now work with non-SE phones with Tiger?

This feature has been around as early as Jaguar. It (together with an earlier version of Saling's Clicker) is probably the reason why most veteran MUGers migrated to Sony Ericsson a few years ago. blame Vic and Elbert :P.

It was a novelty back then but you can't delete the SMS that resides in the phone's memory unlike 3rd party applications such as BluePhone Elite.

Will this work on sending SMS to a non Bluetooth enabled phone? The SMS message on the contacts in my Address book is not highlighted whenever i rightclicked it. By the way im using P800.
