Default PLDT MyDSL and Airport Base Station

Hi! I have just had PLDT come and install my DSL at the office. It came with a blue ZTE ZX DSL831. The technician installed it by connecting it to my PC Laptop running Windows XP.

I have an Airport Base Station (White- the 2nd model - not the Extreme one) and I have my Albook, a Cube and an iBook with Airport Cards.

What I would like to do is to share the DSL connection with the laptops and the Cube wirelessly.

I have searched the forum and seen instructions on how to connect the laptop directly to the DSL connection. But I have not yet seen instructions on how to configure the Base Station.

Can anyone please help? What PPPoE settings and other settings should I use?

    Thanks

I am not sure if the interface is the same with the non-Extreme Base Station but on AEBS, you have to do the following:

    1. Use PPPoE username and password (the same username and password that PLDT gave you -- check your Windoze PC) to connect to DSL
    2. Enable NAT
    3. Optional: setup DHCP and DNS servers

    That is basically it.

i have the following networked at my home office:

    1 pldt dsl modem
    1 D-Link 4 port router
    1 4 port hub
1 apple airport base station (not extreme)
2 apple notebooks with airportcards (wi-fi)
3 notebooks win xp via ethernet cable
3 desktops win xp via ethernet
1 desktop win xp with 2 LAN cards

here is how i connected the hardware:
a.) dsl modem is connected to phone line
b.) router is connected to dsl modem via ethernet (router is configured with PPPoE)
c.) airport base station is connected to router via ethernet (no need to configure PPPoE)
d.) desktop with 2 lan cards is also connected to router via one of the LAN cards the other LAN card is connected to a hub
e.) wi-fi ready notebooks or desktops connect to the internet via airport base station
f.) desktops and notebooks that are non wi-fi connect to the internet via hub that is connected to a desktop sharing internet access from the router.

internet connection is fast. i am also able to share my windows files to my mac notebook via airport and router.

If you get disconnected every now and then, call PLDT (good luck!) and tell them that you are having problems with the connection.

Don't forget to stress to PLDT that you have a Mac and to send their Mac tech guys (who are just a few but I'm pretty sure they know where most Mac lurkers and Muggers live).

a little off topic. whats the difference between the airport base and extreme and the earlier airport bases.... and will the older ones still work effectively with the powerbook g4s?

The AirPort Base Stations use the 802.11b standard, max throughput of 11Mbps. The AirPort Extreme Base Stations use the 802.11g standard, max throughput of 54Mbps and backwards-compatible with the 802.11b standard.

Yup, the older AirPort Base Stations will work just fine with new PowerBooks/iBooks equipped with AirPort Extreme cards (as well as Wintel PCs equipped with 802.11b/802.11g cards). The wireless network will run at the slower 802.11b speed though. Not an issue for internet surfing but might be a drawback if you're gonna do lots of wireless file transfers. :-)
