pissed at destiny. need feedback re: skydsl
im new into the whole broadband thing, 1 month pa lang, 1st thing i wanna say is....i never wanna go back to dial up again hehehe. but then good things never last, out of the 1 month im subscribed to destiny, mga 1/2 ng time lang ako online the rest of the time im waiting for the system to be up. and yeah as ive read here, helpdesk nila sucks BIG time, can't even call at 2-5 am. and always answer is they are doing all they can. wala man lang refund for all the down times. there must be a law that protects us from stuff like this...(any lawyers out there? =P) so mga destiny users here is my question, what is the longest continuous connection you had? my connections dont last 10 hrs straight then have to release/renew again...is this common or is it me lang. pls share horror stories naman para ppl would think twice about getting destiny.
so anyway, i think im gonna switch na, don't care if i have to pay 3k to terminate, im getting nowhere with all the downtime. so here is another question, is skydsl ok? i havent seen much feedback about speeds ng skydsl and uptime/downtime. yun rating nila na 384 , ano yun actual speed nyo. pls send in your comments, it would help me greatly in deciding whether i get sky or pldt. thanks in advance.

Welcome to PhilMUG, eks, though I'm sorry to hear that the first post you have is under irratable circumstances. I've had my fair share of ups and downs with Destiny (more downs than ups, though). May 2004 was the worst year of mine with Destiny -- I only had 8 days of Internet access the whole month.
What area are you in? It sounds like their CMTS is acting up again in your area. Or your modem could be screwy.

I've had Destiny problems before. For example, it took over a month to get the connection going after ir was installed in my flat in 1999.
But since then, it's been relatively reliable. Some downtime, but generally reliable. Speed is usually between 200 to 350 kbps, but since they are on Akamai, it seems faster than that at times.
However, for the past week, I've noticed a speed drop. I've been getting around 150kbps. I think it all has to do with their new P888/month offer (60 hours access). and the new free trail they are offering everyone. Obviousbsly, since bandwidth is shared on cable Internet, my bandwidth has slowed. I think I'm having to compete with online gamers because it doesn't improve on weekends or late nights.
Problems with ISPs are normal. What you are experiencing with Destiny, others have experienced with PLDT myDSL, Eastern DSL, Sky Cable, etc. Yours seems to be a unique problem, which makes matters worse. If it were common, then a single head end solution should have solved it.
I'm shopping for a new provider myself. I'm hoping Eastern would be the answer.

so unique problem yun di maka stay connected continously ? since 2 weeks ago, 3 hrs lang longest continuous online time ko. you think its my modem?
just got off the phone with helpdesk nila, they seem hesistant to send maintainance to me even if i have been requesting it for a few days na, they keep saying they will send maintanace ppl after they fix yun everlasting "problem within the area" , it sounds routine na yun excuses nila, i was trying to catch flaws in their answers, dami inconsistent.
so, any skydsl ppl out there who can give some added info about sky service and speed?still waiting ....=P

slow Destiny
I've been subscribed to Destiny for about a month also, White Plains area. Took only a few days to install from the time I called to subscribe. Initially they gave me a 3com modem which was fine for my win98 PC, about 250-350kbps. This wouldn't work with my Pbook and wrt54g wireless router though. After 2 weeks I had to pick up a Motorola modem myself from their office. This worked with my Pbook and wrt54g, but speeds were only 80-150kbps, even with the PC wired direct to the modem. Up to now I'm getting slow speeds (but no disconnects). Tech says packet loss but when i ping, results are 0% loss. Any ideas on getting faster speeds? Might shift to myDSL if this keeps up.

It seems that with regard to this Cable/DSL situation, we are all in the same  situation.
We are being manipulated, corporately stepped on, and abused on a regular basis. They prey on the fact the we need Broadband access !!
( just like before when getting a PLDT line bordered on impossible, I remember the times when we had to pay under the table 10,000 pesos for a line!).
In most situations, it is a seller's market, so I do not think things will change.
Our only recourse is to keep on complaining and if we have a chance to change broadband providers. Any Mugger lawyers out there who can scrutinise the contracts we unknowingly sign??
Me with Globe DSL, I am paying for a 384 speed connection but am getting just over 128 or less (ALL THE TIME!).
In my area Shaw Blvd. Mandaluyong), I have not alternatives, no myDSL, no EvoDSL, maybe Destiny & Now cable is available but no thanks.
what to do ????

yeah any lawyers here that can offer opinion? sana man lang some sort of reimbursement for all the down time. i really hate it whenever i see sa webpage ng destiny this line NO BUSY SIGNALS NO DISCON etc etc...... misrepresentation ata yan. sana lawyer ako.
c9, your lucky slow speed lang. ako totally offline. i just came home from bayantel office nga eh inquire about dsl nila. akala ko bayan dsl at skydsl same lang...apparently iba pala.

i and macmon and a few others here are using bayantel/skydsl, and i don't know about the rest but i'm very happy with the service; been using it around 5-6 months now? paying P2.7K a month. installation is fast--takes about 5 days after application (it rides on your existing bayantel phone line but doesn't compete with it). speed isn't so hot--am sure it's way below the advertised 384 (i have 4 macs hooked up to it via airport)--but it's still a heck of a lot faster than dial-up and (knock on wood) i've never had a downtime, never had to call tech support, all these months! it's so reliable that i refused an unannounced offer to upgrade my modem--i didn't want anything to mess up my connection.
