Interesting! A number of thoughts from me....
One of my daughters graduated from one of the universities in the top 50 just 2 years ago. In her freshman year I was so mad to know that the dorm she was staying in had no internet access; students had to purchase their own accounts and used their dorm room telephone connections for internet access. DSL was not yet readily available at the time; thus, being online and talking on the phone was not possible.
My younger daughter goes to UC San Diego. I notice that it is not on the list. Knowing some of the other universities, having toured some of them and having lived just outside one of them, I wonder if the size of a campus has anything to do with its ability to offer wireless networking. My daughter carries around with her an iBook and she connects wirelessly at work on campus and in class. I'll ask her if she can connect when enjoying a shade on campus. I also notice some of the other UC campuses not being on the list -- they are large campuses.
A couple of campuses where I currently live are not on the list. And I am in the middle of the Silicon Valley!
Looking at a list like this is re-igniting my thoughts of going back to college. To teach, that is.
