It is ok.... currently getting 30kbytes download on the high-side, and never goes lower than the CIR. However, when I use PLDT it seems to be 2 to 3 times faster. Advantage over PLDT might be the customer service... actually applied for PLDT but never got it installed.

So how does it work Floyd. You have a dish of some sort like Dream cable ?

How much for the hardware ? How much is your monthly ? You are locked in also for 1 year ? What is your ave. actual speed with regard to your contract speed/CIR ?

Can you use an AEBS, Router etc., is it ethernet based ?

    Cheers,

Had a visit from people conducting a survey for Smart/PLDT. They showed me a diagram on how a new type of "wireless broadband" would be installed.

If Meridian is similar, your home would be directly connected via microwave. The antenna in the diagram is similar to those that connects a cell site tower with another cell site tower (not the antenna that connects a cell site to individual cell phones). I guess the connection would be line-of-sight microwave using Smart's cellular network. This should be less prone to connection problems due to atmospheric conditions.

DreamTV, I think, offers direct to satellite internet wherein the household uses a dish. And since you are connecting to something in Earth's orbit, cloudy/rainy days equals bad connection.

    Hope this helps.

Note that Smart now owns 49% of Meridian, and the plan is to fully own it. In fact, the installers of my Meridian connection said that soon we can just tap into the nearer Smart cellstation for an even better connection.
Seems like PLDT is out to dominate the internet broadband space by using wireless to eat into the service area of Bayantel and Globe....
On the Meridian tech - it is line-of-sight to a base station nearby, but it is not affected much by rain or bad weather if the remote station is not far.

    hi,

can you use www.bandwidthplace.com to check the speed?
how was it if it rains? does the antenna connection makes your house/roof look bad?

    thanks

Is there an installation fee? One of my friends got meridian at P750 a month (he lives in Paranaque). Still waiting for his reply on the installation fee.. Is it the same promotion in QC?

is meridien only in metro manila? I hope they'll service laguna and cavite soon.

Im planning to move out to cavite soon. And to think that the place I'll be moving (back) into is just a couple of houses away from a smart cell site.

    Tantin
