Default Linksys WRT54GS or Dlink 624

Apple geniuses, i need your help.

i'm thinking of purchasing a wireless router, which one is better, faster and wider range? the Dlink 624 or the Linksys WRT54GS? I have a Desktop PC and a powerbook. Which one would be compatible with an Airport express as a bridge? Both will work as a client, right?

    Thanks

first of all, the S Variant of the Linksys Product line denotes it has the Speed Boosting Technology. In order to fully harness this enhancement, you have to have the same Router/AP (w/ Speed Boost) and a wireless card (w/ Speed Boost).

Since your Powerbook's Wifi card does not have such a technology, then it's kinda useless thus I suggest just getting the WRT54G.

Although, if your desktop pc does have a compatible PCI WiFi Card, then be my guest. Other than that, I don't think you should spend extra for a feature you can't even use. :2cents:

thanks maverick. I'll go with your advise.

Any experience with the Dlink 624? Is it also WDS capable like the Linksys?

    I'm using a D-Link 624+B with a wired eMac and wireless AlBook 1.5 and you could say I'm a satisfied customer. :P

I'm using DLink DI-624+ with firmware version 2.02. It's ok when it's working, but there are times when the router would simply refuse to send/receive any data, and there's no other recourse but to manually power down then turn on again. Since it refuses to send/receive info, restarting the router from the web based interface is futile. Some reports say that the new firmware solves this problem, though.

Still, I'd recommend the WRT54G over the DI624+.

Linksys routers are generally easier to configure and more idiot proof, but D-link routers have better security features.
