High Gain Antennas for us?
anybody here tried using the high gain antennas for the Linksys router/access point? or perhaps the outdoor antennas of DLink? i am thinking of getting a couple of Linksys AP for 4,500/ea. and would want to further extend its range through the HG antennas but would like to hear some feedback from current users first. TIA

i was thinking of looking into this myself
do they sell the antennas locally? how much distance do you get if i purchase one?

2 things to check when getting an external antenna - gain and footprint.
Gain is expressed in dB and the ones available locally are in the 3 - 14 dB range.
Footprint is the ummmm coverage of the antenna's radiated signal. An omnidirectional antenna covers 360 degrees while a unidirectional antenna may cover 30 degrees in the direction that it is pointed at. The smaller the angular coverage, the farther the distance possible.
If it's just to extend the range of the AP's antenna within an office, you'd probably want an omnidirectional antenna placed in the middle of the office.
If you want to send a signal across the road to an extension office (which is illegal by the way), you'd want a unidirectional antenna.
And then of course, there's that infamous diy Pringle's antenna that's popular in the net - it costs next to nothing and actually performs very well.
Distances of 1-3Km shouldn't be too hard to achieve with consumer level antennas and AP's as the underlying technology can cover as far as the eye can see.

I'm curious about that antennae. I'm using a linksys booster already. It's already giving me good results. Let us know how it goes if you ever get one.

Try to Google the word "cantenna" and you'll see different versions of the pringle's (and other can related antennas) antenna
