Help Please - USB port not working with external drive

I have a 15" Aluminum Powerbook and I'm having problems connecting my USB external drive. Everytime I plug the drive, i can only hear a ticking sound. I don't see it being mounted in my desktop even if I try both USB ports on my Powerbook. What's strange is it worked perfectly with my wife's 12" ALBook.

That is a problem that happens only on the 15" AlBooks.

The USB 2.0 ports on the 15" AlBooks seem to not get enough power to run an external HDD. Your options are, use an external power supply for the HDD, or use a POWERED USB hub.

I've had the same problem, and the only time that I got the external USB HDD to work was when I used an external power supply (don't have a powered hub).
