Default HELP! Need to speed up WiFi Upstream.... :(

    Hey Wi-Fi Gurus!

I was just wondering, if there is any way to speed up my uploads through wi-fi just by configuring my router. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G, and maybe one of you have done some to help speed up uploads.

My ISP is NOW Cable (PLDT). The service is excellent, downloads have not been a problem and my speed has been consistently on the 250-300kbps range. I do know that uploads on cable are a tad bit slower than DSL, especially on peak usage hours here in Makati.

The reason why I need to speed up my Wi-Fi uploads:

    1. It takes forever for me to upload a 1MB file on yahoo mail - approx 5-8mins
    2. I cannot have both voice and video on ichat AV because I lack sufficient bandwidth to comply for the high rate of outgoing and incoming bytes. I only have voice to chat with people abroad, which is not bad considering I get real-time crystal clear voice chats
    3. Even video on Yahoo is choppy. I cannot even enable Super Web Cam... I guess its from lack of upstream power.

Thanks for the help guys! I hope to see some of you guys this Sat in the Lumiere meet, I just have to fix up my sked.

Not sure if I understand your issue correctly, but maybe we can try isolating the issue first--whether it's an ISP/connection-related issue, or it's a wifi-related issue. Can you try connecting via ethernet cable to your router, then checking if the upload slowness persists?

EDIT: reason I ask is because as I understand it, wifi, like wired ethernet, doesn't really differentiate between upload and download. It's just raw bandwidth that can be used either way. I think it's the router-ISP side that manages upload vs. download rates.

NOW is just really slow uploads. You get dial-up like speeds.

Ok Gabby, when im on the wire - it takes me an ave of 3-4mins to upload a 1mb file. When im on wifi - the same 1mb file takes me 5-8 mins. So I was wondering if the bottleneck is due to my router.

Mikael - You're right the uploads are really slow, but the super fast download speeds, excellent customer service, and close to ZERO downtimes more than make up for the slow uploads. It just gets frustrating having to wait forever for and upload to get on the net. But if its within my wireless LAN here at home, i can move 500mb through different computers in 4 mins tops.
