FTP problems with AA

i've consistently been having problems making large ftp uploads whenever im connected through airborne access. at first i thought it was a local problem or a server-side incompatibility, but i had the same thing when i was in manila. the ftp transfer stalls and reports a 'server disconnected' message when uploading, usually on the 5th to 7th file. consistently. no issues when using ethernet or dial-up. is anybody else experiencing the same problem?

btw: im using transmit. also tried out other ftp programs and even the one built-in os x through the terminal. same problem.
