Eastern is quite slow to service in some areas. I've been waiting over 5 weeks for their supposed installation.

I am planning to switch to Eastern. I have two questions:
1. Will it be better than PLDT and Bayantel in terms of downtime and disconnection?
2. Which is better? Extreme 1024 or Leased 256?
Hope someone has exprienced on using all DSL services.

From experience, I have to say yes. ETPI is nearly rock-solid in terms of uptime and support (at least for their business DSL packages).
Dunno about Bayantel but PLDT had some issues with downtime, etc. (still has). Things are better now (except for the DNS issue of which there's a simple workaround) and its current myDSL packages are pretty attractive. Customer service is still as bad as they come though, hehe.

If you're in the Makati CBD or Ortigas Center area, the best option is still Eastern's 256Kbps business DSL package for P5,500 (incl. VAT). Bandwidth is uncapped in those areas so the 256Kbps plan will actually yield speeds up to 1.5+Mbps/200+KBps. Just ask member vicicasas. :-)
The only issue I see with EvO DSL is that the packages have no CIRs. Therefore, it's conceivable that you won't get the max quoted speed 100% of the time (or even half the time). I believe this has already been observed by some EvO DSL users. I raised this issue with a couple of ETPI reps a couple of weeks back. Hopefully, ETPI will do something about it. I guess that's the compromise you get 'coz when it first came out, EvO DSL offers some of the cheaper residential DSL packages around. Then PLDT decided to double the speed of its myDSL packages for free. :-)

DSL services is basically a price vs bandwidth game - meaning, whoever has the deepest pockets (for a protracted price war) and the biggest customer base (to better spread the cost of bandwidth) will win.
I'll put my money on PLDT, flaky services notwithstanding.
