Default Connecting 2 Macs via AirPort Extreme

Admittedly, we didn't have time to really get our hands dirty but we were trying to get our iBook's to talk to one another using just our APEX's. All we wanted to do was share files wirelessly. Couldn't figure out the thing about public folders, either, and when we clicked "Network", we expected to see one another's computers, but unfortunately wala.

This is what we did (but we couldn't connect).

    1. Both iBook's APEx's on
    2. I created a network called "philmug"
    3. Other iBook's APEx successfully connected to this "philmug" network
    4. Both iBook's had enabled "Personal File Sharing" using "Sharing" in System Preferences.

Now the next step would have been to go to Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server, OR

    Finder -> Network -> Philmug ?

but there was nothing either way.

    What should we have done?

    Bonjour!

both of you log in, from there you can share files wirelessly.

my brother Joe (also a mugger, who owns an iBook) and I do this often.

    log in what? where? how?

We were both connected to the same network which we created there and then on the spot, call it "Philmug".

BOTH our APEx icons on top moved from signal bars to what looked like computer icons within the signal bars, which I can only assume to mean that both of our computers were connected to the same network.

Yet for reasons beyond our current comprehension, my computer did not show on his iBook and vice versa.

    Eh?

log in to your Bonjour accounts (AIM or .Mac), from there you can send each other files.

Alrightey.. I'm using 10.3.9. I think this computer has Bonjour, if it used to be called Rendezvous? (Or is Bonjour a separate download?)

    Finding your computer's Bonjour name

Bonjour (formerly known as "Rendezvous") is a feature that automatically configures and detects certain network services on your local network you can use, such as printers, iChat AV, and various types of sharing. Your computer's Bonjour name identifies your computer to Bonjour-compatible applications and services.

    1. Open System Preferences and click Sharing.
    2. Find your computer name. Your computer's Bonjour name is displayed beneath your computer name. It is your computer name appended with ".local."

For example, if your computer name is "bbms" and you enable Personal Web Sharing, then other local computers can view your shared webpages by entering "bbms.local" in a web browser's URL field.

If your computer name is not recognized by Bonjour, the name will be Macintosh.local.

To use Bonjour, computers must have Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

*will try this again when I get the chance

(Still think that our computers should automatically have appeared on one another's Finder -> Network) hehehe

I've done this several times with another mac laptop here's what ive done:

    1. On the airport icon on the meu bar, i create a network and inpuy whtaever name you want.
    2. Using my firends laptop, he searched and connect for the network that i have created
    3. Once connected, just open Network using Apple+Shift+K on the finder. There you can see the connected computer's mounted hardrives inside the network that i created.
    4. Click on the mounted drive's icon and connect. If it has password you'll have to input it and after that, the connected computer's dirve will mount on your desktop.
