    Default Can\'t connect to a Wi-Fi network

I got pretty embarrased the other day when me and my dad (a PC user) sat down for some wi-fi last weekend at the EDSA Shangri La Hotel.

A little bit of backgrounder, the hotel is a big hotspot. They have several networks you can join. At the Garden Cafe and Lobby lounge you can join a network called Maginet. In other areas like the poolside or Garden Wing hallway you can connect to a network called ESL (Edsa Shangri La).

Anyway the day before we were able to do some surfing at the garden wing walkway without any problems but on this particular day we were sitting outside the Garden Cafe when I could not connect to any of the available networks. I mean I was able to connect, I got 3 bars of signal but I could not surf.

My dad got connected in no time but as for me i tired and tried until my batteries went dead. I checked my network settings an it said something about the proxies not being set right. It was wierd though, because I had no problems connecting to this network before. In fact I did it a day before and a week before that. My dad really gave me a good teasing.

Something similar happened to me when I was at Ynzal last December. I was using their wi-fi and was able to download some stuff when all of a sudden I could not surf anymore. I tried restaring and all and had full bars of signal strength but nothing seemed to work.

Can anybody help me solve this mystery?

If you can get several bars in you connection counter, that means you did have a connection to their wifi. There are several reasons why you can't get through the Net even if you have access to a wifi router or station.

One is you can't get an IP Address, and the other one is that when even if you have an IP address you are not properly authenticated by the host station.

If this happens intermittently like in your case, the problem might be in your airport exreme card or wifi card.

This thing happens to me in my USB wifi connector in the office. Btter to havve your unit checked. Loose connection of your wifi card can also cause a mulfunction.

    Good luck!

I use my APE card everyday at work without any problem. So perhaps the problem was i could not get an IP address. But how come this happened. It can't be the card because I was using an open network. I have used this hotspot before and my dad was using it the same time i did.
