Broadband ISP\'s available in the Alabang, Munt. area?!
I was just wondering what are the other ISP's that provide broadband that are available in the Alabang, Muntinlupa area?
Currently the one in the house is a leased line dsl connection provided by PLDT. 128Kbps was the initial contract. And to my surprise, it costs 11k PHP. So I'm canvassing for my pops to get something faster and better.
I checked out PLDT's site and saw that for the 11k PHP price, he should be getting around 1 Mbps (leased line business dsl) already and not just 128kbps. So I advised him to cut it and either renew to a new and faster plan or find something else that is available in the area.
Anybody have any ideas?

Meridian claims to have coverage (haven't tested it), I heard Destiny has it in AAV.
If you're willing to spend that price (I'm sure you don't want to anymore) - and this is just a weird idea. Instead of doing that, just get a regular DSL connection at a friend's flat in the Makati Area and use a Cisco Aironet with a 2.0m parabolic dish mounted on a mast from your house and another at the friend's flat (if the condo admin would allow it), remember that it's line-of-sight though... but I'm sure you don't want to do this (the equipment will cover the cost of doing that leased line in about a year). But then again, you can always check on eBay for similar products.
I do this on an old wireless bridge I got long ago - Proxim RangeLAN but I think this line is now discontinued... You'll get around 1Mbps on these.

Do you know why PLDT has to charge lease line for your home in Alabang? It should be free installation (http://www.pldtdsl.com/about/news.html)..

thanks for the input peeps!
longbeard.... my dad got that connection when dsl and cable internet was very new and quite unheard of. during those times, the speeds were just a bit better than dial up, thus he opted to get a leased line due to its speed (that was then of course...)
but now it doesn't even compare to what most people are getting with residential dsl. thus, i'm helping him look for something better.

The main reason why the speed cannot be over 128KBPS might be because the leased line (otherwise called as Local Loop) speed is 128KBPS. This set-up will be much expensive since you have to pay the dedicated physical connection (Leased Line) and the internet connection separately. I would suggest changing it to PLDT DSL (they have a couple of plans which would provide the requirements). I know a couple of people/offices that use PLDT Residential connections for business (way cheaper since the rate for Residential and Commercial has a big price difference).
The set-up with the parabolic dish or Microwaves which was mentioned by one of posts will be much harder to maintain.. You might end up troubleshooting the transmission path the whole day and getting pissed off. Beside this set-up is for commercial use since it costs more and you need a skilled operator to maintain this set-up. I used to maintain our Microwave connections when I was still stationed in Manila.. :drunk:

Hi guys, this is paul lucas of Happy Communications Inc. We are a telco company offering wireless Lease Lines. It is a full duplex lease line meaning if you sign up for a 512kbps broadband you get 512kbps up and 512kbps down. Incidentally, we have coverage in alabang, las pinas and paranaque. however, at the moment what we offer are corporate rates lang but we will be rolling out our consumer product soon.
keep me in mind ha if you have or you know anyone who whod be needing our services. im not sure if this is allowed on this thread. if so, my apologies. Thanks!
