    Default amplifying WIFI signals (merged)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

am looking for wifi repeaters or antennas that will work
with my linksys. Ive read that wap 11 can be used as a repeater but
you it will only repeat a signal coming from another wap 11.

Am using a BEFW11S4 for the office and want to increase the signal
    to cover a wider range.

Are there generic Wifi repeaters that will work regardless of the brand of your wifi router? I have an MSI at home, and because of the concretes walls and floors, moving as little as 20 feet from the base station makes connection impossible (although Kismac detects the signal, its too weak to be useful). The one you recommended will only work with a linksys branded wifi device.

Anyone tried using those pringles can antennas? Its easy daw to make, but there's no way to connect it to the internal airport card of the newer Albooks and iBooks.

Also the one you recommended is already discontinued.

Called microwarehouse the other day and checked... some units are availalble in the US but sold are at a premium.

I tried ordering the cantenna but they dont accept billing addresses outside of the US.

    Anton,

Go to thinkgeek.com and get the cantenna from there - they ship internationally and definitely accept credit cards from overseas.

togi: a friend of mine mentioned before you could attach long pieces of metal to the antenna terminals of your wireless access point.

i had problems too with signal strength so i got a RadioShack 2.4GHz router range-extender antenna in the US for $30 & replaced the Linksys WRT54G's original antenna. my Airport's signal strength improved from 20+% to 30-35% (based on Konfabulator's CPU-Center widget). you might want to try this. i don't know if this is available locally though. btw, the package says that the antenna is "designed for use with Linksys Wireless Routers". other features:

    -omnidirectional
    -5.5dBi-gain
    -frequency range 2400-2485MHz
    -imput power 10 watts
    -impedance 50 ohms
