airport express or a linksys router
hi guys, im in the process of setting our place up for wireless internet and i was wondering which one to get. im on a budget but i do want to get the best that i can afford. i like the airport express because ive been hearing great things about it. the linksys routers seem to be cheaper and i see alot of hotspots using this.
any ideas guys? thanks again.

Hi Potemkin,
If you need/want airtunes, wireless printing get the Airport Express but it costs around P2k more than the Linksys. But if costs and range is more of what you need get the Linksys WRT54G. A plus side on the Linksys is that it has a 4port switch so you can attach your non-wifi computers.

i set up a linksys router in my friend's house... one computer is wired... another wireless, one pc notebook, and one ibook... it's working great..
i set up my place with the airport express, it's working fine too...
the linksys G router is priced at 5k+ while i got the APX at 8.3k... for 3k+ more, i think it's worth it since im really enjoying airtunes plus you could plug in a printer into the APX for network printing..

Another annoying thing I noticed on the Airport Base Stations is that they have to resart everytime you change a setting.

hm... i think im leaning towards the linksys. we dont really have a printer here yet and i really just want to be able to go online even when other people are using the internet. thanks for the advice guys.

As I looked through spec sheets, I found out that Linksys only supports up to 22MBps (correct me if I'm wrong), and some of the cheaper use the older IEEE802.11b standard, while AExtreme uses IEEE802.11g and is up to 54MBps. But then again, a dude who needs really fast connections would probably go for Gigabit ethernet, so I think the bandwidth wouldn't be an issue, unless there's a lot of computers in this network. Otherwise, Linksys might be a viable alternative.

The Linksys WRT54G is a true-blue 802.11g router, 54Mbps. It's by far my favorite router.

i use Linksys since it was given by the office for free, its very stable and easy to setup. good range and compatibiity as well. My officemate got the one with speedbooster (wrt54gs) and he says has better range and performance.
Theres also an new range expander and high gain antennas out now. BUT, i would want sana an Airport Express as a portable AP. I can plug it in the hotel room's broadband then work in bed. But thats too much luxury na siguro.
I work for the Cisco which is the parent company of Linksys, we just hired a new guy to handle linksys sales and distribution. ill talk him into making a promo for philmuggers or at least be a sponsor in one of the meetings.

Use a linksys WRT54G model for only 5T around summer. You wont go wrong with this baby.
Both wired and wireless connection. just make sure you get the lastest firmware version from their site or versiontracker.

I've been hearing about dropped connections when using the Linksys WRT54G Router. Hows the performance so far via PLDT's MyDSL?
