Default what\'s your most expensive mac?

sometimes--especially when we start complaining about having to pay $3,000 for a 17-inch1.33 Ghz albook--all it takes is a little perspective.

let's all feel rich (and/or stupid) and 'fess up to paying much more for much less.

me, i paid $3,100 in 1997 for a 180mhz powerbook 2400c with 48 mb of ram and a 1.3 gig HD. (that doesn't include P18,000 in customs duties! what did i know then? i could've flown to LA and back to pick the damned thing up.)

at that time, i pitied the fellow who had to pay--in 1995--for the most expensive powerbook ever sold: the 5300ce with its 10.4-inch screen, 117 mhz processor, 32 mb ram, and 1.3 gig HD, all yours for a measly $6,500.

    what's your story?

Hi Butch! In late 2002 I paid US$2100 for a 14-inch iBook G3/800 + Airport + AppleCare that is now being advertised in the MacConnection catalog for $899.

Good thing I used the company's money (with their blessing) to buy the iBook, or else I'd be really upset.

My first portable, the 500mhz dual iBook, CD-RW only, cost me 92k. I then added Applecare for 14k so the grand total was P106k. Exchange rate then was around P45=$1 so if my math is correct: $2,355.00??? Ouch

My most expensive Mac? By far the family's Dual 1.25GHz G4. At the time we purchased it (January 2003 I believe), it cost roughly $3500 USD!!

and to think now I could get myself a Dual 2.0GHz G5 for $500 less!:brick:

    Default PowerBook 3400c

I can so relate, BUTCH, that it hurts to reminisce about it.

Almost US$7,000 for a then top-of-the-line PowerBook 3400c, bought in ComputerWare-Berkeley (w/ CA sales tax, of course) in May 1997.

What made it suck even more is that in November 1997, Apple came out w/ the first-ever PowerBook G3. Same case with the addition of a 750 processor running at 250 MHz.

The recent switchers couldn't have timed shifting their allegance better! You guys lucky!

Lucky for me I got into macs just January 2003- Titanium Powerbook 15" G4 1Ghz Superdrive P182,000 at LMK. Additional 512mb RAM for P9500. This was the most expensive for me so far.

Just 9 months after- October 2003, I was able to get my Aluminum 17" G4-1.33Ghz with 1Gig RAM already for less than that.

My Dual 1.25 G4, w/ 1.25 Gb of RAM @ PhP 128k. Over the years the total cost for my Apple addiction probably hovers around PhP 800k~900k.

Mine is my current Powerbook, the 12" Aluminum with Superdrive. Amounted to $2k, I believe.
