    Default PowerMac G4 officially obsolete

With the release of the new Dual G5s, Apple has officially discontinued the PowerMac G4 series. The single 1.25 model is still available while supplies last at Apple Authorized Resellers.

And to think, my dualie was the top-of-the line Mac, 2 years ago. Planned obsolescence...nakakainis.

    True. 10 years from now, this G4 will still be working as a web server/a router/print & file server/jukebox/dvd player/cool-looking computer/conversation piece.

Macs have a funny way of hanging around much longer than their PC counterparts. Check out my sig, all but the Duo (damaged LCD) are in near-perfect working condition.

the macworld article states that " These models (mac g4s) remain popular with some users who have been unable yet to migrate to Mac OS X.," correct me if im wrong, but these g4s dont boot into os 9 natively. those britons talaga...

    Default better term

I think the better term there is "phased out of the market" for newer technology.

This is just me but as long as your Mac makes you $$$ then it isnt obsolete. Maybe last year's model but not obsolete.

Obsolete?! Here at work,. all of the magazines and other graphics stuff is done using a 2002, 867 Mhz, G4 Quicksilver running OS9.2 at 1.12 Gig RAM. Heck! I’m still able to churn out a monthly mag that has a minimum of 180 pages using 2 versions (Chinese & English) of Quark open; run Photoshop psd files that can reach a file size of 300MB; receive & reply to emails (that some smart editors sometimes attach a 2MB file to) via Entourage; and have Norton Antivirus, Acrobat, Illustrator, Word, iTunes open. Not to mention Internet Explorer so I can sneakily post to Philmug (mwehehe).

Nah, I don’t think this baby qualifies as obsolete. A bit ragged & work-weary (like me) maybe for it can sometimes crash. But a restart later, everything’s fine again.
