Default Ngek! We forgot the Mac\'s birthday! (+ Steve Jobs video)

Our beloved Macintosh turned 21 yesterday (Jan. 24) and we forgot all about it!

    Belated happy birthday, Mac!

Here's a link to a digitized-from-tape video of the very first Jobs Keynote ever, with the unveiling of the Mac 21 years ago, courtesy of a German Mac User Group. The first public demo of the Mac, the first view of MacPaint and MacWrite, and the first time a Mac speaks. The crowd was just as riotously happy then as modern fans are now. (And check out Steve in a double-breasted suit with a bowtie, long before he heard of black mock turtlenecks and jeans.)

20mb download. Site is busy so it might take a while. Am mirroring it on my page too, just in case, but the upload is sloooow.

    Cheers!

21 years old? Traditionally, the coming of age for a guy.

First time to use an Apple computer was wayback in '93. so much has changed... but Macs are still the best computer you could find (hahaha... switched to a Windows PC for 2 years but reverted to Apple as soon as i had the opportunity).

Nakakakilabot yung video, especially with Vangelis playing on the background! I was totally agog.

Wow, I'm only three years older than the Mac pala. And here I thought it was older than me.

Am downloading the video right now. Can't wait to see it!

Wow! I had goosebumps watching it, hehehehe.
First time I saw that Keynote. I could see Steve Jobs having a great time with the audience response when the Mac talked. Galing!!!

    And HAPPY B-DAY Macintosh/Apple.arty:

Man that was hilarious seeing Jobs that young but at the same time the crowd's reaction was just amazing. You could see people literally leaping in joy when the first Macintosh was introduced. It looked more like a rock concert than a keynote address. How times have changed....

thanks, henjie, that was a great, historic moment.

now for our younger muggers, here's a link to the famous 1984 commercial introducing the macintosh (along with a scholarly analysis of it, which is pretty good but which you can disregard if you just want to watch the ad):
