Power Mac G5:
- faster (dual-processor vs. single-proc for the iMac G5s)
- expandability (2 internal hard drives; 8GB max of RAM; PCI/PCI-X slots)
- upgradability (video card, optical drive, etc.)
- FireWire 800
iMac G5:
- slower (single-proc)
- limited expandability/upgradability (the only thing you can upgrade is the RAM)
- built-in LCD display
- no FireWire 800
If you're a video/audio pro (or kahit na hindi) and needs/wants the fastest Mac you can buy, go for the Power Mac G5. Otherwise, mas practical ang iMac G5 (more than adequate for home use though, with the occasional iMovie, Photoshop, etc. projects).

Yup, available na. For prices, contact the local Apple resellers. System software is still Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. Tiger won't be available until next year.

Have to correct you there Henjie, the iMac G5 features user serviceable hard disk drives. You can upgrade the hard disk as well as RAM.
cheers,

On another note, just want to point out the relatively good value of the iMac G5.
The cost of the 20" cinema display is $1299.00. The 20" G5 iMac with built in LCD screen ( comparable to the 20" Cinema display ) costs $1899.00
So essentially, when you buy the 20" iMac, you are getting the computer for only $600!!
But really, choosing between the two (PowerMac and iMac ) depends on what use you have in mind. If you are looking for a new computer for home use then the iMac is great value for money.

Yup, forgot about the hard drive. Sorry. :-)

Word is that the LCD panels used in the 20" iMac G5s are different from the ones used in the 20" Cinema Display (better).

I was a bit disappointed with the LCD of the new Imac. The screen of the powerbook is way sharper and crispier. For a little more just get a G5 dual processor powermac partnered with a 19" Samsung LCD monitor (that is if you cant afford those cinema displays)

Hmm. My observation has been quite the opposite. I've never seen Apple screens as clear or as crispy as those on iMac G5's.

Hi guys,
I have a 20" Aluminum Cinema Display and comparing it to the 20" iMac screen at the shop nearby... it's on par in terms of brightness/color to the eye (not sure about quality tho... hehehe).
Go for the PM G5 if ur willing to shelve out more for a good display like the Apple Displays (or even opt for 23" or 30" displays if u want to) and be at comfort to be able to expand ur machine... OR if you are on a budget, then the 20" iMac won't be a disspointment either with limited expandability (and a crappy display/video card).

I used the iMac extensively last night. I'm a PowerBook user, DRU777, so I should be able to gauge well which display is better. Sure, my PB is a tiny 12" LCD and the one I tested at home last night was a 17", but real estate aside, I was totally impressed with the iMac G5's display. It's cool to the eyes and, at 1440 x 900, truly crisp and sharp. I noticed this after I went back to my PB.
sonja athene, before I can make a recommendation, let me ask you a question. What is it you intend to do on the G5? Are you a power user (i.e. graphic design, video editing, etc.) or a simple one (email, web browsing, Word, Excel, etc.)?

I would wait a bit longer for user reviews of the iMac G5 to come in. Maybe another month or so for bug reports to come in.
As for PM G5, I recommend waiting for the 2nd gen. Although most people have no problems with theirs, there are quite a few reports of lemons. Too many in fact.
