Jobs pulls the plug on Apple keynote broadcast
From appleinsider.com:
For the first time in several years, Apple Computer may not provide a live feed of its opening keynote presentation at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco.
Apple chief executive Steve Jobs, reportedly miffed over a series new product leaks, has abruptly pulled the plug on the realtime webcast and satellite broadcast of his Macworld Expo keynote, according to an Apple memo forwarded to the MacInTouch website.
The message reads, in part, "Apple will not be making satellite coordinates available. Although the keynote WILL be available on our web site - it will NOT be available until sometime AFTER the keynote is over. They do NOT have a time determined, so it may not be immediately after the keynote is over. "
For the past several years, Apple has provided its loyal fans and customers with a webcast video stream of Jobs' Macworld keynote speeches. The company has also broadcasted the event at its retail stores through satellite.
Inquires at several Apple retail stores confirm that, sadly, no broadcast is scheduled to take place next Tuesday; leaving all those who are unable to attend the expo -- as well as the millions of folks who do not read Apple rumor sites -- on the edge of their seats for at least a couple hours longer.

darn it. why make us pay for the foolishness of others? the ones who leaked out the info don't need the webcast--they presumably already know what's cooking, but the rest of us don't! when's the exact keynote, anyway (manila time)?

I was planning to join the live chatting like last year! Argh... hope the Philmug delegation can do some form of chat updates...even 10 minutes delay is tolerable.

Does anyone here share the theory that the decision to scrap the live broadcast of Job's Keynote at MWSF '05 has anything to do with preventing a Gates' BSOD type of scenario from being fed live to the public?

I'm pretty certain that there will be wireless access in the keynote, but you can't rely on me to relay news to you in real time. I'm lousy at multi tasking.
If there indeed is good bandwidth available at the keynote, what I can probably do though is keep a video or audio iChat open with someone who can do the job of typing up the reports in real time.
Of course, it's highly possible that Jobs won't allow real time relaying as well. So what I just proposed might not even happen.
We'll see...

disappointed
Being an apple/mac fan for less than a year, I have been so enthusiastic in listening to such live feed. Done it once and is so anxiously waiting for this one.
Then this news comes up.
gosh.... I wish they will reconsider.
